Horseman Raise $40,000 for Local Scholarships on Youth Day

June 6th, 2009 was the first of three matinee racing programs at Goshen Historic Track last year with six races carded on Youth Day with the emphasis on offering entertainment –and horse racing—to the younger generation.

Most horses that competed did so for schooling or for qualifying for the pari-mutuel tracks, but it seemed that those races, which showcased some up and coming young horses, took a backseat to the main event , the Inaugural High School Scholarship Race, which followed the last matinee race.

Inagural HS Scholarship Race

The clippity-clop of horse’s hooves echo throughout the historic grandstand as the trainers prepare their horses for our Matinee Races and our 99th Grand Circuit Racing Season here at Goshen Historic Track.

Youth Day will focus on the younger generation with booths and events. To mention just a few of the activities children and young adults will be involved in are: naming a foal, a booth with hair braiding, a hands on tour of a working stable performing their daily duties to prepare a race horse for competition and a blacksmith shoeing a race horse in the tracks original blacksmith shop.

Some of our perennial favorite events are:

“Name That Foal”
Mr. Steve Jones of Cameo Hills Farm located in Montgomery, New York will bring a mare and her foal to the track for display. Patrons will have an opportunity to observe the mare and foal at the track and fill out entry forms to “Name That Foal”.

The Broodmare’s name and the Stallion’s name she is bred to will be listed on the stall poster. Judging of the names entered will be announced following the last race of that day from the Judges Stand in front of the Grandstand. The winner will be able to have a picture taken with the foal to be posted on our web site and in our STALLION AUCTION letter. The winner will also receive a special tour of Cameo Hills Farm where the foal is raised which is the beginning of a race horse’s life.

Hair Braiding
Signature Braids is your perfect solution for any hairstyling event. Whether it be for weddings, birthday parties or a special occasion such as a prom, communion, or a cheerleading competition. All of our services are provided on location, in the convenience of your own home. Sisters Erin and Brigette are NYS licensed cosmetologists who strive for professionalism and perfection in every aspect of their services. Meet Bridgette and Erin from “Signature Braids”. Visitors will be able to observe and have their hair braided at the “Hair Braiding” booth.

Stable Tour
Take a tour of a working race horse stable. This demonstration will show the care and exercise the horse has to do each day as an athlete in training. Check back on this site for the scheduled time the tour will start.

Blacksmith Shop
The original blacksmith shop still stands and is a full working shop. Watch the blacksmith make the horseshoes and nail them onto the hoof. The blacksmith is very important to a horse’s success in the racing industry! A group tour will be scheduled. Check back on our site for updated information and time of the tour schedule.

Make it a memorable day for the whole family!
